Election 2008

Election Day

this map represents the changes that took place at the election. so the really red area is an area that got even redder.

Lisa and Bill --

I'm about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.

We just made history.

And I don't want you to forget how we did it.

You made history every single day during this campaign -- every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or
talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it's time for change.

I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign.

We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I'll be in touch soon about what comes next.

But I want to be very clear about one thing...

All of this happened because of you.

Thank you,

Lisa predicted 70%. We Won! 338 to 140 electoral votes. Hey, see, there is 70% of the people in this country with at least half a brain. The rest of you, the other 30% need to rub the sleep out of their eyes. Their horror movie is over.

Today, twenty-one months after he (Obama) launched his campaign, he allowed, "You know. I feel pretty peaceful ... I gotta say".

Contrast that with McCain's who has vowed to 'fight'. See a video of McCain using the 'fight' word.

"So we have laws that allow borrowing money against derivatives -- basically a bet between two people who create nothing without collateral. They leveraged the public financial health on something you wouldn't be allowed to do in Vegas. It illustrates the corruption that has become institutionalized through deregulation and a culture of predatory greed."
John Cusak

"This is the end of Milton Friedman, Reaganomics and supply-side theory. This ideology has never been about free markets but a fundamentalist vision that is a cover for naked aggression and a social contract based on fear and greed. The government's job is to create optimal conditions for corporate profit, to privatize everything in sight and to sell off its own body parts. To literally devour itself."

The Republican Approach to Government: Authoritarian Rule
Republicans rule, rather than govern, when they are in power by imposing their authoritarian conservative philosophy on everyone, as their answer for everything. This works for them because their interest is in power, and in what it can do for those who think as they do. Ruling, of course, must be distinguished from governing, which is a more nuanced process that entails give-and-take and the kind of compromises that are often necessary to find a consensus and solutions that will best serve the interests of all Americans."

Other viewpoints are easily accessible if you have the bandwidth. Improving the internets so rural communities could get more choices than Rush Limbaugh would be a good first step.

"Although nearly 90 percent of urban dwellers had electricity by the 1930s, only ten percent of rural dwellers did. Private utility companies, who supplied electric power to most of the nation's consumers, argued that it was too expensive to string electric lines to isolated rural farmsteads. Anyway, they said, most farmers, were too poor to be able to afford electricity."

"Just a year ago, he (Mr. Stokes) and Rochelle, and their two very young children, moved to Phenix City from Fenton so he could take the mechanic job at the Pratt & Whitney plant in nearby Columbus, Ga. Airlines send engines there for periodic overhauls, and when Mr. Stokes arrived 400 workers were tearing down and rebuilding 15 engines a month."

"But as the airlines reduced their flights — and announced 36,000 job cuts, nearly all of them taking place in the current fourth quarter — that number fell to three engines this month and “it was going to be worse for November, just one or two,” Mr. Stokes said."

Here's the deal, it looks like the Democrats are going to pick up close to the magic number that gives a filibuster-proof 60 seats. That means they will be able to go ahead with legislation for the first time in a zillion years - unencumbered by the Republicans.

I worked on the 1972 McGovern campaign for course credit when I was studying media at UST. The course was called Campaigns and Elections and was taught by Tom Bass. We really wanted to end the war, but our voices were not listened to and in the end, the war continued for a few more years. This time I believe we will end a war with an election. There are too many babyboomers like me out there who will vote for Obama.

We voted.

We voted the "rascals out of office"!

I understand Obama and Ayers. In 1972 Houston, groups like the Weather Underground and the Students for a Democratic Society were radical groups admired by many in the Montrose area. I lived there during that time. I was attending University of St. Thomas, which was in the heart of the city. We had one of the Chicago 8 speak during lecture week. Obama was in a similar neighborhood in Chicago.

Someone seems to hate democracy
"... this is all about building a post-election narrative aimed at delegitimizing a Barack Obama presidency by claiming he won fraudulently. It's not just a handy excuse for the ass-kicking they deserve -- it's a whole right-wing conspiracy-theory cottage industry in the making that will nurture their paranoia and rage for years down the road."

October 14, 2008

I can only remind you that the Republicans have been in charge forever. Where is their blame? Why vote them another term? What have they done to deserve it? They had a lot of fun, cashing in their political capital, I know that.

Now the treasury is hurting and it is time once again for the Democratic party to save the economy from another Bush.

I mean, the Republicans talk a good talk about economics; but look what happened today. The president said we are having to bail out the banks in what we have been told is a free market system. What a lie that has been - the free market economy, trickle down by giving the rich more to spend.

Socialized Medicine got a real bad name. Republicans were able to make the word socialism sound bad. Aren't they the clever ones. The awful word - SOCIALISM. Now they embrace it. Welcome to Socialized Banking. Thanks Bush, you made my day, you idiot. I would rather stand in line for health care than have no line to stand in, and no alternative. It works in Europe says Lisa.

The party has made no accomplishments that I can see. They are about to lose the House and Senate again as they did in 2006. How stupid is that! You think they would have done some kind of good things they could spin. They did not. Why? My guess is they are incapable of doing one good thing. Let's see what were the big issues of the last 8 years? Not jobs. Not Health care, not education, not equal pay for women. You know? Gosh, the Republicans could have helped themselves if they all stood up and said, "We think women should earn the same as men for the same work!" But, they didn't get it. Stupid. Women do deserve equal pay.

So, now what's left to do? They had a brilliant idea, let's act like turd blossoms and discredit the Democrats. Gee, I hope they are not my leaders come January 20, 2009. Enough is Enough vote Democratic.

Around this house, we like to think of Obama as a halfrow, raised by his kindly white grandparents. :)

Besides, Bush just turned the country slightly Socialist today. Wait, does that mean Bush hates America? He talks about socialism as if it were bad...then bails out the free market. The whole idea is beyond belief. Their most sacred Republican practices are being revealed to be only matters of convenience. Today, it is convenient for Bush to embrace Socialism. Tomorrow, who knows. At least he will be gone soon.

Joe Biden said McCain is seeing the presidency move from his grasp and that is why he is trying to scare people with race, religion and terrorism. It was all about McCain and his lust for power from the beginning.

Bush Strategist: McCain Knows He Put Country At Risk With Palin Pick
"No, I don't agree," said Mark McKinnon, a former McCain aide, after chiding Dowd for claiming particular insight into McCain's soul.

AUSTIN (Austin American-Statesman) – HelioVolt Corp. is opening its first full-scale 122,400-sf factory today, giving Central Texas a foothold in solar energy manufacturing. The company has pioneered the use of powerful and durable thin-film solar materials that can be made part of metals, plastic, glass and other construction materials. HelioVolt is targeting three markets: large panels used in solar-farm arrays, panels installed on commercial rooftops, and incorporating solar-generating power into building materials. The factory is across East Stassney Lane from a planned 140-acre Texas Clean Energy Park, purchased by Trammell Crow Co. in August.
